What we look for

Wits module knowledge.
The ability to teach it.

We recruit across three tiers — Senior STEM graduates and academics, Masters candidates, and Masters specialists. What they share is depth of knowledge in Wits’s first-year modules and the ability to explain it clearly under exam conditions. Teaching experience is valued but not required — we train our facilitators.

01
Module expertise
You must have passed MATH1036A, MATH1042A, MATH1034A, STAT1003 or STAT1006 at distinction level — or be completing a postgraduate qualification in a related field at a South African university.
02
Teaching ability
You can explain concepts clearly, work problems live under pressure and hold an audience of first-year students. Teaching experience is valued but not required — we train our facilitators.
03
Availability
Eight workshops per module per month, each 60 minutes. All remote via UMM Live. Scheduled with your availability in mind. Fully compatible with your Masters-level or current studies.
The panels

Four tiers.
Every level of expertise.

UMM Wits’s academic panel spans four tiers from senior academics with 20+ years of teaching experience to Year 2+ Wits undergraduates who recently passed the same modules your students are taking. Every tier plays a specific role — no tier is interchangeable.

Senior STEM Graduates & Academics — competitive moderator rate
Masters Candidates — R80–senior rate per session
Masters Specialists — competitive rate per session
Undergraduate Peer Moderators —

No exclusivity. Facilitating for UMM does not prevent you from tutoring, lecturing, or working elsewhere. We ask only that you honour your scheduled workshop commitments. All facilitators engage as self-employed independent contractors and are responsible for their own tax obligations.
